Tips To Maintain Your Paving
Feb 22nd
If your paving is covered in oil, dirt and muck with a handful of undesirable weeds in-between, chances are that you have been overlooking your pavement completely! We’ve had renters in our home for the past 24 months and we went to take a look at the property over earlier this week. To put it mildly, the home is in a horrible condition! Sure, we should have checked up on the renters more often, but we trusted our rental representative with this task.
We used to have a neat and welcoming entrance when we handed the home over to the renters – this driveway is now covered in colours of green and black and it’s barely possible to see the paving under all the weeds and dirt! Needless to say we are not amused with the situation, but it’s time to cut our losses and move on.
At times a garden hose and a broom would be able to do the trick, but in our example, it has unfortunately gone way too far for that! Fortunately we have a high pressure hose in our garage area, so this should be able to remove most of the dirt and grime that has gathered over the past 2 yrs. A tough garden sweeper might be required to get rid of some of the more challenging stains. Then we would also need to purchase a chemical substance or a type of stripper to eliminate the oil spills on the paving! I have a funny hunch that our tenants had a backyard garage at our premises as
I cannot think how else a driveway would end up looking like the inside of a dirty workshop!
To avoid being in a similar predicament again in the future, we will buy proper sealant and seal the paving once it’s properly washed. Sealants are a way to guard your paving from soiling and it will also reduce the risk of algae to cultivate on the surface and cause discolouring. There are various forms of sealant readily available and it is therefore important to choose the correct sealant for the job. The one thing that I do not want is a sparkly pavement! That never looks normal and it gives the perception that your paving has been varnished instead of sealed!
Some of our paving is a bit more porous than other, so we will have to pay special attention to getting the proper sealers for the correct areas. As far as I am aware an effective sealant will safeguard the paving for anything between 2 and 5 years – that sounds good to me!
Another good plan to make sure that your pavement lasts as long as your house, is to replace any broken or cracked pieces as soon as possible. A tiny crack can easily spread out when left unwatched and your expensive paving can quickly end up resembling a spiderweb!
If you are considering paving your entrance, ensure that you use a reliable company with experience in the field – this will prevent a lot of complications later on!
Learn More About Pavers

If you have ever scanned one of those homes and way of life magazines, you have possibly seen those beautiful Victorian houses with their equally lovely grassed areas. And few folk could look at those houses and not wish that their own houses were just as pretty. Well, what if I told you that the way to making your own home worthy of being featured in one of those home and way of life magazines was right under your nose, or rather, your feet?
Pavers defined
Pavers, as the name suggests, are the paved walkways, drives, pool sides, for example. That may be found in most top-end houses. Some houses limit their pavers to just a little of their grass like the walkway or that area around the fountain, but others like the pavement to encompass more than half of their gardens. Personally, I like the pavers to just cover the quintessential parts of the lawn. But hey, to each his own, right?
Some people like to place pavers on their walkways, leading right to their front doors, while others like to include the drives leading to the garage. Still, there are some folk like to pave the perimeter of their pools and even their entire houses. Some folk also like to beautify their gardens by adding quaint paved walkways that lead through the maze of flowers and shrubs.
Kinds of Pavers
there are many materials that you may use for your pavers. Some people enjoy going with a classic look and choose bricks for their pavers, while some folks like to go with a fresh ‘natural’ look and go with stones or small pebbles. Still, there are more who need to go with a modern or contemporary look, and for this, concrete pavers are the best. There are several other paving materials such as gravel, limestones, and slates.
Pavers Installation
These pavers look shocking and are perfect additions to your houses, but they aren’t exactly easy to install. Sure, the entire installation may look like a straightforward process of laying down stones or bricks, but there’s truly more to paving than that.
Paving is a comprehensive process whereby you’ll need to lay down each piece one by one. But the difficulty does not end there. If installed wrongly, your pavers can fall apart in a matter of months. You see, the kind of pavers that you can actually use relies on the sort of soil you have. If your soil is loose and sandy, the pavers may not hold correctly.
So, often, while it may be less expensive to just do things yourself, it could be miles better to just hire a professional paver.
