A healthy, green lawn shows pride of ownership and is often the first impression to guests and passersby. While spring and summer mowing, weeding and watering are important, a robust lawn needs care and attention all year. In order to promote a healthy spring carpet, it is important to winterize grass properly.
Winterizing Vital In Cold Climates
Winterizing is particularly necessary in colder areas where winter frost and snow covers the ground for extended periods. Contrary to popular belief, grass doesn't die in the winter. Rather, it hibernates during the long, cold, sunless months much like a bear or deer. Winterizing is especially helpful if the lawn isn't in optimal health to begin with.
Pergolas that look like the ones we have now were first introduced in the 17th century. At that time they were heavy stone edifices supported by massive columns. When more natural gardens came into vogue in the 18th and 19th centuries, pergolas were no longer in style.
Even if you don't feel confident enough to make these backyard plans you can always hire a landscape designer to do it for you. If you do it yourself make sure to take things like seasons, sunlight, and location into consideration when you draw up backyard plans for landscaping.
Once these plans are done you will definitely be ready to start planting. Putting beautiful plants into the ground will give you a great sense of accomplishment. Keep in mind that you're not even limited to plants in your backyard plans for landscaping. Rocks and small water ponds can be a great addition as well.
Other backyard plans deal with physical structures. If you have children in your family you might want to design backyard plans for a playhouse. This playhouse can be in a tree or on the ground. Since you'll want to make sure everything will be safe be sure to design good plans.
Consider adding features that will make the playhouse extra fun. You can add things like a window box on the outside and shelves on the inside. Draw these into your plans to test things out and imagine how they will work. Be sure everything is to scale so you can gather your materials and build more easily

Winterizing is particularly necessary in colder areas where winter frost and snow covers the ground for extended periods. Contrary to popular belief, grass doesn’t die in the winter. One backyard plan you can use will help you do your landscaping. You should never go to a garden center and just buy whatever plants you see. This will make your yard look cluttered and haphazard. Draw up some landscaping plans to make your yard look professional and beautiful.
Prepare or Beware
If possible before the first frost, rake debris and leaves from the lawn to allow sunlight and the earth’s nutrients into the soil during the winter. Keeping the lawn free of dead or dying organic matter will prevent disease and mold from setting in. The act of raking also lightly aerates the soil, allowing a deeper penetration of sun and moisture.
Once these plans are done you will definitely be ready to start planting. Putting beautiful plants into the ground will give you a great sense of accomplishment. Landscape Lighting and How to Avoid Overdoing It – Landscape Decorating
Aug 1st
Outdoor backless benches have always been a favorite type of garden furniture. There are many styles, sizes and uses — making the backless bench an excellent choice for any garden, landscape, patio or anywhere extra seating is desired. There are so many materials available and pricing options making the backless bench choice simple.
Outdoor backless benches are available in an assortment of materials. Cast Iron, aluminum and stainless steel are extremely durable and long lasting. Cedar and teak are perfect types of wood that are weather resilient and beautiful. Recycled plastic is also a terrific choice offering low maintenance, a variety of colors, and of course it’s all recycled material so its earth friendly.
Trying to decide what type of wall decor would blend and ablaze the yard with beauty was relatively easy. It came to mind almost instantaneously. Wall plaques would dramatically fulfill the outcome with their words and statue. They tend to add dimension to any bare area they cover.
Decorative outdoor wall plaques are unique accent pieces that adorn your patio, garden or other outdoor area. Most outdoor wall plaques are flat plates or disks which are beautifully chiseled, ornamented or engraved. They can be used as a decoration, information or identification. Best of all, you can mix and match materials and styles to ensure a look that is unique to your home.
It is always a good idea to walk around your home, looking at any pathways, focal points, and entry ways you might want to illuminate. This is looking at your lighting needs from a macro point of view, or basically, an overview of what you want to light. Always avoid at this point trying to take a count of how many actual lights you will need. Your goal here is to mainly assess your overall lighting needs and desires. I say needs first, because you may have entry ways that for safety reasons need to be lighted, or pathways that also require a certain nighttime brightness to keep you and the family from falling in to the planter bed. Ouch! Any landscape lighting after that simply adds focal interest to the appearance of the home at night.
Once you have decided on your macro lighting needs, it is time to look at it from a micro point of view, or basically, take a finger count of how many lights you may need, and whether they will broadcast a downward spray of light, an upward light stream, or a combination of both. Note: You do not have to actually use your fingers to count, unless you use your toes as well. Try a pad of paper and pen. I guarantee it will be easier. Here is the key: Be cautious not to over illuminate your yard, for the benefit of your electricity bill if you go with electric lights, and because you do not want to go over the top with your lighting. For that matter, there is no need to. Your lighting should be subtle, yet add enough of an impact for safety reasons and to supply a nice glow to your property overall at night. You will appreciate the results, and so will your neighbors.
We finally come to the reason for assessing your needs both at night and during the day. You need to remember that not only does your lighting serve a purpose, but it also becomes an intricate part of your landscaping decor. That is unless you have an incredible knack for camouflaging it from view. Be sure to take that in to account and remember that most of it will be in view. Follow this pre-lighting assessment and you are sure to make the right landscape lighting choices. Happy lighting.
